SPRINGFIELD, Illinois – Family, friends and colleagues gathered at the Illinois Military Academy at Camp Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois, July 13 for a retirement ceremony to celebrate the 32-year career of retired Chief Warrant Officer 3 Kathy Silveus of Auburn, Illinois.
Col. Eric Little, Chief of Staff of the Illinois Army National Guard, presided over the ceremony. Silveus was presented multiple awards including the Meritorious Service Medal and the Illinois Distinguished Service Medal.
Silveus enlisted as a 71L, Administrative Specialist, into the 264th Engineer Group, Wisconsin Army National Guard on Aug. 1, 1985. In October 1990 she transferred to the Illinois Army National Guard.
Silveus has had a multitude of assignments over her career, including records noncommissioned officer (NCO), state incentives NCO, enlisted personnel NCO, records branch chief, automation branch chief and as the Recruiting and Retention Battalion Command Personnel Chief, her final assignment.
Her awards and commendations include two National Defense Service medals, three Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbons and a Global War on Terrorism Service medal.
