Airmen fly every day in support of the U.S. Air Force mission but, behind the scenes there is a unique group of Airmen working day in and day out to ensure Airmen are fit to perform their duties.
Aviation resource management Airmen at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, monitor and maintain all flight records for aircrew service members assigned to MacDill, the Combatant Commands, and those deployed to other countries including Egypt, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
“We also track incentive pay entitlements, training requirements, physical and physiological training for the aircrew,” said Airman 1st Class Stephanie Brogan, aviation resource management journeyman assigned to the 6th Operations Support Squadron. “In addition, we can work in wing scheduling to plan air refueling training with outside agencies.”
On a daily basis, aviation resource management Airmen work with the flying squadrons to run “go, no go” exercises that ensure aircrew has met all of their requirements before they step to the aircraft.
“Go, no go’s are extremely important because we have a certain amount of tasking’s that the aircrew need to perform before they can fly,” Staff Sgt. Olivia Trombley, assistant NCO in charge of host aviation resource management assigned to the 6th OSS. “We have to make sure that they are safe to fly.”
Other day to day tasks include in-processing and out-processing Airmen, auditing flight and jump records as well as running daily reports to ensure accuracy within the Aviation Resource Management System.
“We have to be extra careful with our work because without us nobody here can fly,” said Trombley. “It’s on us to make sure that people can get out to make the refueling and distinguished visitor airlift missions happen.”
Like many career fields, aviation resource management works together as a team unit to ensure the mission gets done every single day.
“The people I work with here are a team, we are one family, one vision, one voice, and they have helped me develop as an Airman in my primary duties as well as personally,” said Brogan. “Both our base career functional manager and NCOIC always strive to improve us as a team through training and feedback that ultimately brings us together stronger.”
