ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Maryland – It is the season of change for Project Manager Distributed Common Ground System – Army (PM DCGS-A) as the two largest charters under the PM have recently changed hands.

Lt. Col. Shawanta Smart accepted the Product Manager Fielding and Training charter from Col. Donald Burton during a ceremony May 26 in the Myer Auditorium.

DCGS-A Fielding and Training, formerly known as Increment 1, achieved full deployment fielding during Col. Burton’s command. In total it allowed the DCGS-A system to migrate nine legacy programs into a system of systems and provide more than 120 intelligence analysis tools and access to more than 600 data sources to about 40,000 soldiers world-wide.
“There are those who have talent and there are those who are the talented, you are the talented,” said Col. Robert Collins, Project Manager, DCGS-A, about Col. Burton.
Lt. Col. Smart was hand selected for this new position and will oversee the continued fielding of software and hardware upgrades to the DCGS-A system and ensuring units know how to maximize these upgrades.

A week later on June 2 Lt. Col. Matthew Paul accepted the charter to become the Product Manager for DCGS-A Capability Drop from Lt. Col. Laura Poston, during a ceremony in the Myer Auditorium.
DCGS-A Capability Drop, formerly known as Increment 2, is chartered to build upon the capabilities provided in Increment 1 delivering enhanced visualization, analytical tools and data integration, cyber analytics incorporation and emerging cyber security considerations. It will also enable further compliance with common standards and environments across the Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC).

"In order to keep my comments short enough to not talk all day I can summarize Laura to you as adaptable, agile and resilient,” said Collins.

Lt. Col. Paul has been with the Acquisitions Corps since 2009 and worked with Program Executive Office - Intelligence Electronic Warfare and Sensors at each assignment since. As the Product Manager Capability Drop he will be responsible for ushering in a new future for the DCGS-A system.

Each new Product Manager will hit the ground running as PM DCGS-A is prepared to surge forward and improve upon the capabilities provided to the intelligence community.
