Yoiko Child Development Center kicked-off the Month of the Military Child with a parade honoring Misawa Air Base’s youngest members, April 3.

The parade featured members of the base honor guard, the fire department mascot Sparky and posters made by the CDC staff and children.

“Military children encounter many challenges other children may not, such as moving, deployments and simply living what some might refer to as an untraditional lifestyle,” said Deborah Barron, the Yoiko CDC director. “The service of military children is easy to overlook, but April provides a chance to really focus on their contributions.”

The month of April recognizes children from infants to 18 years old for the daily sacrifices they make and challenges they overcome. They play an important role in contributing to the strength of the Air Force family. The CDC will host events including Friday luncheons, making letters and pictures for deployed service members along with various spirit and themed days.
