    FORT BENNING, Ga. – The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) competitive shooting teams work daily to be the best marksmen in the world. Here is a review of their accomplishments for the week ending May 28.

    Competitions

    Service Pistol

    Soldiers from the USAMU Service Pistol Team competed at the 2017 Flagler Cup Regional Action Pistol Match in Bates City, Missouri on May 21 and the 2017 Bianchi Cup National Action Pistol Championships in Columbia, Missouri from May 24-27.

    The USAMU Service Pistol Team swept the podium at both the Bianchi Cup Nationals and the Flagler Cup Regional.

    At the Bianchi Cup, stellar performances were displayed with an 1st through 3rd place finishes in the Metallic and Production classes by Sgt. 1st Class Adam Sokolowski from Yeagertown, Pennsylvania, Sgt. 1st Class Patrick Franks from Williamsport, Tennessee and Staff Sgt. Ryan Franks from Henderson, Nevada respectively.

    Sokolowski also set a new record in the Metallic Class with a perfect score in his final match. He was also the Multigun 1st place finisher and garnered the High Military award during his stay at the Bianchi Cup.

    Two other 3rd place podium finishes were brought home in the Overall Competition by Sgt. 1st Class Michael Gasser from Houston, Texas and in the Ladies Division by Sgt. Katie Bahten from Fort Benning, Georgia.

    Flagler Cup Action Pistol Regional

    Excellent performances were also shown at the Flagler Cup Regional match. With a podium sweep of the overall match 1st through 3rd place individual wins by Staff Sgt. Greg Markowski from Columbus, Georgia, Sgt. 1st Class James Henderson from Pasadena, California and Spc. Christopher Hudock from Virginia Beach, Virginia respectively. The Service Pistol Team also secured first place wins in Overall Team and Service Pistol Team Matches.

    Service Rifle Team

    Sgt. Ben Cleland from Sylvania, Ohio won his second Precision Rifle Series (PRS) match of the season at the 2017 K & M PRS competition in Finger, Tennessee May 27-28.

    Cleland finished 1st place in the Tactical Division which earned him 100 points and put his total at 200 points for the season, meaning he only needs to win one more match to be at the maximum point total heading into the PRS finale and giving him an excellent chance at winning.

    Sgt. 1st Class William Pace from West Valley, Utah placed third in the Tactical Division at the same competition.

    Shotgun Team

    The USAMU Shotgun Team competed at the 2017 USA Shooting Shotgun Spring Selection Match at Fort Benning, Georgia on the USAMU’s Hook Range from May 22-27.

    This match served as the second of three Open Team selection matches for the 2017 International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Shotgun Championships to be held later this year. The 2016 USA Shooting Shotgun Fall Selection match held last October and the 2017 USA Shooting Shotgun National Championships scheduled for this July in Colorado Springs, Colorado are the other two matches.

    Matches were conducted for both Skeet and Trap disciplines which are both Olympic shooting competitions on the program for the 2020 Tokyo Games.

    The Skeet Team had an outstanding finish with Sgt. Hayden Stewart from Nashville, Tennessee and Pvt. 1st Class Christian Elliot from Richmond, Indiana finishing first and second in the match.

    In addition to two podium finishes the Skeet Team also put two more Soldiers in the final, with Pvt. 1st Class Phillip Jungman finishing fourth and Sgt. Dustan Taylor from Shawnee, Oklahoma finishing in fifth.

    With these finishes the Skeet Team holds all three spots for the World Championship Team Selection heading into the final match.

    The Trap Team also had a successful outing at the Spring Selection match also earning two podium finishes.

    Pvt. 1st Class William Hinton from Lawrenceville, Georgia was able to secure a second place finish and Sgt. Seth Inman from Lexington, Missouri finished in third. They also had another Soldier in the final as Sgt. 1st Class Ryan Hadden from Pendleton, Oregon finished in fifth place.

    The Trap Team also has three members in contention for the World Championship Team with Staff Sgt. Derek Haldeman from Westerville, Ohio in a tie for third, Inman in a tie for fourth and Hinton in the top ten with one match to go.
