    Resolute Support Headquarters

KABUL, Afghanistan – Across Afghanistan, members of the Afghan National Police (ANP) need proper equipment to do their jobs. Deputy Minister of Interior (MoI) for Support, Min. Mohammad Tahmasi, and Maj. Gen. L. Neil Thurgood, Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan’s (CSTC-A) Deputy Commanding General, toured the National Logistics Center (NLC) in Wardak, May 29, 2017.
The NLC stores equipment, uniforms, and food needed to keep police officers on the road. The ANP also uses this facility to conduct maintenance and repairs of police vehicles.
"NLC- Wardak remains a critical node in the sustainment chain to provide the Ministry of Interior the needed equipment and supplies to accomplish the challenging mission in Afghanistan,” said Thurgood.
NATO contractors also use the facility to train Afghan civilian mechanics, creating a more self-sufficient maintenance workforce. CSTC-A provides advisors to assist in improving each step of the logistic process.
“While there is much work ahead of us, every visit to NLC-Wardak shows improvements in supply chain management, including inventory ordering, inventory accountability and inventory delivery of critical items,” said Thurgood.
As MoI’s ANP logistics network continues to expand and solidify, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has taken a keen interest in holding leaders accountable for their organizations and missions.
One of the major reforms introduced in Afghanistan, was the implementation of Core Inventory Management Systems (Core IMS), an initiative first recommended by the Inspector General of the Department of Defense (DoD) as the official system for inventory management used by CSTC-A.
“Using CORE-IMS as the common standard of execution and accountability, our partnership continues to enhance transparency and accountability,” said Thurgood. “Together, through current mission execution and future detailed planning, MoI and CSTC-A can ensure the right material arrives at the right time to the right person.”
