MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU, ROMANIA – On a bright sunny day, local children, teachers, and guardians ventured to Mihail Kogalniceanu Airbase to participate in a Youth Day, which included static displays of military equipment and interactions with U.S. and Romanian Military personnel, May 26.
Company C, 83rd Battalion Civil Affairs Team, stationed on Mihail Kogalniceanu Airbase, Romania, hosted the event, whose objective sought to achieve further unification and resolve among allied nations, specifically between the US and Romania.
The event afforded US Soldiers an opportunity to further such ties through in person interactions with Romanian children and their guardians. The event consisted of various activities, including military vehicle demonstrations, camouflage face painting, and opportunities for the children to interact with US Soldiers on personal levels.
Capt. Jordan Rusher, a signal officer from Orlando, FL, and Sgt. 1st Class Michael Jackson, a combat engineer from Horn Lake, MI, attended the event as the planning staff of the 926th Eng. Bde., an engineering unit currently stationed in Mihail Kogalniceanu; the members of whom are responsible for the planning of Resolute Castle 2017.
Resolute Castle is an engineering mission which advances the initiatives of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Currently, the Soldiers of Resolute Castle are developing training infrastructure at the Joint National Training Center in Cincu, Romania.
“Our mission of Resolute Castle 2017, in which we are participating alongside our Romanian allies, goes further than acting within the realm of engineering,” said Sgt. 1st Class Jackson. “The Youth Day showcases our commitment to our allies in building trust and mutual resolve in defense of the values our nations hold dear.”
Between iterations of lively children, who were visibly eager to enjoy the military festivities, Cpt. Jordan Rusher found time to comment on the events of the day.
“Our efforts in planning and coordinating the engineering projects of Resolute Castle 2017 have been determined and focused; however, we must not lose sight of the overarching mission of developing unity and resolve among allied nations in unique and personal ways,” said Rusher. “Through our interactions and time spent with the youth of Romania, specifically here in Mihail Kogalniceanu, we enhance the strength of our relationships with NATO nations and our allies.”
Following a day of fun with the kids, the 926th Eng. Bde. bid farewell to their newfound friends and returned to their Tactical Operations Center; from which they facilitate the operations of Resolute Castle 2017 in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
