SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, IL, UNITED STATES

    05.22.2017

Story by Staff Sgt. Clayton Lenhardt

    375th Air Mobility Wing

Air transportation specialists gathered for a memorial run May 22 at Scott Lake.
The run honored “port dawgs” who passed in the line of duty.
“Unfortunately, we do this every year,” said Tech. Sgt. Tim Brady, Air Mobility Command transportation systems and data management functional.“We’ve got fallen brothers that we have to pay homage to and this is how we choose to do it.”
Before the run began, a streamer with the names of the fallen from 2016 was attached to a port dawg guidon. Runners also carried chains with a vice attached for each fallen port dawg.
“This is an incredible opportunity for us to come together as a career fieldand recognize those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice” said Brady.
Chief Master Sgt. Rob Schultz, AMC air transportation division enlisted manager, echoed why memorial ceremonies are important.
“It’s just a reminder of what we do. What we truly signed up to do” said Schultz.“It honors the lives of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.”
The four Airmen honored this year are Master Sgt. William “Russ” Davis, Master Sgt. Kelly Bartholemew, Staff Sgt. Jonathan Turner, and Airman 1st Class Russel DeLeon.
