The 126th Air Refueling Wing successfully completed a Nuclear Operational Readiness Inspection April 9, at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
Inspectors from Air Mobility Command were present for the inspection; however, unlike past inspections AMC inspectors were evaluating the Wing’s Inspector General team and their ability to plan and execute a wing inspection.
“They came down to watch how well we could develop an exercise that really tested the Wing’s ability to do this mission in all aspects, and then how well we could inspect it,” said Maj Dan Reed, Director of Inspections for the 126th Air Refueling Wing, Inspector General office.
Inspections in the past were primarily focused on maintainers, aircrew, and the Command Post; however, for this inspection the IG team involved much more of the Wing. Reed says they hoped to involve the entire Wing but they were limited by the number of qualified inspectors for several offices.
“The way we built our Wing Inspection Team was a lot different this time than we had in the past, we had a team lead for each Major Graded Area and that team lead was in charge of all the members in their graded areas.” said Reed.
The inspector general team invested six months of planning to ensure the inspection was well organized and executed perfectly.
“I think it went really, really well because our WIT is super sharp,” said Reed. “For the most part they said it was one of the best prepared Wing Inspection Teams they’ve ever seen.”
