Distinguished visitors and media personnel gathered at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville, Ind., May 9 to attend the exercise overview of United Front 2017.
The exercise overview included a tour of the training site, which simulated a collapsed building after the devastation from a tornado. Following the tour, leading members of the exercise and distinguished visitors shared remarks pertaining to the importance of readiness and relationship building.
United Front 2017 is a quality training exercise that provides realistic environments and scenarios of a natural or man-made disaster to prepare Soldiers and participating personnel. By working with other international, national and local organizations, the Indiana National Guard is capable of standing ‘Always Ready, Always There.’
Working alongside other agencies and organizations builds relationships founded upon shared principles, experience and vision. These relationships are bonds of trust that make protecting the homeland and conducting successful overseas missions possible. Exercises such as United Front 2017 maintain unity and keep our Soldiers and responders the most highly-trained in their fields.
Organizations participating in the exercise included: 81st Troop Command, 19th CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP), Israeli National Search and Rescue (NRU), ZAKA, Merrillville Fire and Police Departments, Crown Point Fire Rescue, Bloomington Fire Department, Lake County Emergency Management Agency, Indiana District 1 Task Force, District 1 Hospital Emergency Planning Committee, Indiana Task Force 1, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Northwest Indiana Information Sharing Security Alliance (NIISSA), United States Marine Corps Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF), Ohio National Guard, Illinois National Guard, Colorado National Guard and the Chicago Emergency Management.
