Lance Cpl. Ashley Schaffer, from Grove City, Ohio, is an embarkation specialist with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in Okinawa, Japan.
Schaffer’s job is to make plans to help Marines embark and debark the ship, as well as being the guide for units when getting attached to the 31st MEU.
She is excited for the learning experience and “becoming an embark subject expert” after this upcoming float.
She said she always wanted to enlist but waited until she was 21 to start her Marine Corps career. She was influenced by family and friends who also were Marine, but she was inspired by her Grandfather who was in the U.S. Coast Guard and was lost at sea trying to save Marines’ lives.
