Marines from 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division conducted a field training exercise at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, May 2 - 4.

This field exercise provided the Marines the opportunity to conduct mounted patrols, vehicle checkpoint inspections and improvised explosive device training.

“It’s a different kind of training which will help us to be ready,” said Lance Cpl. Denzel Jackson, a rifleman with the unit. “It makes us unstoppable and strengthens our bond.”

With the widespread use of IEDs in today’s battle field, Marines have an increased possibility to be exposed to them while in theatre. The training was conducted to test and highlight the importance of quickly responding to an IED.

The training will also enable them to pass on this knowledge to other Marines in their unit, increasing their effectiveness while deployed as well as prepare them for future operations.

Throughout the training, junior Marines demonstrated initiative while filling leadership billets which will serve the unit well during future operations.

“Because of this training, I am very confident in the Marines,” said Sgt. Tyler Andrew Courtney, a squad leader with the unit.
