Wichita celebrates Week of Heroes

184th Wing

Local military personnel, law enforcement and first responders gathered March 20-24 at the Museum of World Treasures in Wichita for the Week of Heroes to visit with attendees, provide demonstrations, give talks and more. The week-long celebration focuses on celebrating the heroes that protect the community.

“It is also an educational venue for the public to understand who we are and what we do,” said Capt. Linda Baggett, director of inspections, 184th Intelligence Wing.

This is the fourth year for the Week of Heroes and all proceeds of the event go back to the non-profit museum.

Baggett and Senior Master Sgt. Cornelius Hulum planned the event for the wing’s involvement.

“We had a total of 43 volunteers from the 184th Intelligence Wing, including recruiting volunteers each day who came out from several [184th] units,” said Baggett.

Wing equipment displays included the 184th Civil Engineering Squadron’s Mobile Emergency Operations Center, the 134th Air Control Squadron’s cargo vehicles and 184th Security Forces Squadron’s riot gear.

The 184th IW’s honor guard presented the colors and several volunteers helped out at the kid’s craft table.

“It was a great venue for the kids as well, as they love climbing on the tanks and trucks and interacting with the heroes,” said Baggett.

Col. Chris Snyder, commander, 184th Cyber Operations Group, spoke about the diverse missions of the wing, focusing on the intelligence mission.

“All in all, it was a successful event and we hope to make it bigger and better next year and the years to come,” said Baggett.
