    FORT BENNING, Ga. – The U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) competitive shooting teams work daily to be the best marksmen in the world. Here is a review of their accomplishments for the week ending April 16.

    Competitions

    Sgt. 1st Class Daniel Horner, Action Shooting Team, from Suffolk, Virginia, won his fourth consecutive and ninth overall United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) Multi-Gun National Championship in the Tactical Optics Division. Horner also won first overall and high military honors at the 2017 USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals in Boulder City, Nevada April 14-16.

    Staff Sgt. Tyler Payne, Action Shooting Team, from Princeton, Minnesota captured his second consecutive USPSA) Multi-Gun Nationals title in the Heavy Metal Tactical Division at the Pro Gun Club in Boulder City, Nevada April 14-16.

    Staff sergeants Joel Turner, Action Shooting Team, from Belton, South Carolina and John Browning, Action Shooting Team, from Jackson, Georgia finished in second place in their respective categories during the 2017 USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals, April 14-16, in Boulder City, Nevada. Turner was competing in the Open Division, while Browning shot in the Limited Division.

    Sgt. 1st Class Brandon Green, Service Rifle Team, from Bogalusa, Louisiana, took overall first place at the 2017 Southern Nationals Rifle Competition in Dawsonville, Georgia, April 6-9. Green shot well the entire match only losing 16 points out of 2,100 to be crowned the overall match winner.

    Staff Sgt. Amanda Elsenboss, Service Rifle Team, from Woodbury, Connecticut, won the Service Rifle match at the 2017 Southern Nationals Rifle Competition in Dawsonville, Georgia, April 6-9. Elsenboss also captured the highest score for a female competitor during the competition.

    Overall, the Service Rifle Team was able to win all daily aggregate matches, rapid fire, slow fire, service rifle, as well as, the overall competition. Also, seven members of the team were able to finish in the top 10 overall for the entire competition.

    Sgt. Ben Cleland, Service Rifle Team, from Swanton, Ohio, placed second overall, Sgt. Joseph Peterson, Service Rifle Team, from Satsuma, Alabama, came in second in Service Rifle and Staff Sgt. Kevin Trickett, Service Rifle Team, from Woburn, Massachusetts, wound up in third place in Service Rifle.

    Spc. Patrick Sunderman, International Rifle Team, from Farmington, Minnesota won the 2017 Anniston April Monthly Rifle and Pistol Match on April 15 in Anniston, Alabama. Sunderman took first place in the Air Rifle event beating out 26 other world-class marksmen by over 10 points for the title.

    The USAMU hosted the 2017 USA Shooting Spring Selection Match for Rifle and Pistol April 1-6 at the Pool Indoor Range on Fort Benning, Georgia. Four USAMU Soldiers competed for spots at the two upcoming International Shooting Sports Federation World Cup competitions in Munich, Germany and Gabala, Azerbaijan. Sunderman and Staff Sgt. George Norton, International Rifle Team, from Salina, Kansas, finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Air Rifle match just missing out on a top two finish for qualification for the world cups.
