MENLO PARK, Calif. - Richard (Phil) Stage, Army Reserve Ambassador for the 63rd Regional Support Command and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve representative, presented Jonathan B. Cory, Executive Director of Stanford Research Institute International, with the Patriot Award on behalf of the Office of the Secretary of Defense for his exceptional support during military training and deployments of employees serving in the Army National Guard or Reserve, in the auditorium of the SRI International campus, Menlo Park, April 5.

Army National Guard or Reserve soldiers can nominate supervisors or organizations for the Patriot Award in recognition for their outstanding support of the military.

Col. Jonathan Moyer, Cyber Operations, Office of the Chief, Army Reserve nominated Cory for his outstanding support for the guard and reserve as a leader within SRI International.

“This company understands how to take care of service members by allowing them ability to go at a moment’s notice if called to active duty,” said Stage.

Stage stated how both ESGR and SRI International understand the importance of maintaining the strength of the guard and reserve though unconditional support during deployments and training necessary to maintain their tactical skills, and combat readiness.

“Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Employers Support for the Guard and Reserve recognizes Jonathan Cory as a patriotic employer for contributing to national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employees’ participation in America’s national guard and reserve force,” Stage said, reading a note on behalf of Moyer, who is currently on active duty orders.

“Jonathan is the Executive Director for mission solutions for SRI International, and a veteran of the Air Force,” said Stage. “He is a strong supporter for veterans’ corporate benefits with SRI.”

Stage then introduced and presented Cory with the award.

Cory thanked Moyer, Stage, and ESGR for the award and emphasized the importance of SRI’s policies. He further explained that the policies in place were important for him to have the ability and flexibility to assist and support service members that worked within SRI.

“I want to thank the reserve and the guard for this award because it’s a real honor to get this," Cory said. "Secondly, I have to thank SRI for having the military leave policy; this is what has allowed me to support this and enabled troops to still get their pay while they are called up.”

“Finally, I have to thank the reservists. When you go into the military, you sign up for a fixed amount of time; you know you’re going to (deploy), so kudos to the people that do that,” said Cory.

Cory stated that a reserve soldier doesn’t always know when they may be deploying in an effort to serve their country, making the possibility of a last minute call to active duty a real and probable event.

“You are very critical to the company’s success,” said Cory to the audience.
