FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Representatives from Defense Finance and Accounting Service inspected the Soldiers and civilians of the Defense Military Pay Office Feb. 27- March 3.
The DMPO, which includes Soldiers of the 101st Financial Management Support Unit, part of 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Sustainment Brigade, scored the highest score in unit history with 99.68 percent.
Every year DFAS sends a team of experts from the Network Audit Field Compliance Division (NAFCD) to inspect documentation behind the functional areas of the DMPO including customer service, internal review and disbursing operations.
The inspection is critical to supporting audibility and preventing fraud, waste, and abuse.
Each section under review received a “green” rating from the NAFCD, meaning that they exceeded the Army standard of 92%.
The DMPO supports all of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) to include Soldiers from all tenant units on Fort Campbell, their Families, and retirees. The DMPO codes documents for military pay to ensure accurate and timely pay of Soldiers. In addition, the customer service section addresses and corrects Soldier pay inquiries.
Maj. Jose G. Beltre, commander of the 101st FMSU, said the unit improved itself greatly.
“We have seen a tremendous improvement from the previous NAFCD inspection,” he said. “Disbursing was a great concern last year, but 1st Lt. Benjamin Waterbury [Deputy Disbursing Officer] did a great job bringing the section to all green and no findings.”
Sandra Steele, deputy director of the DMPO, who was the primary point of contact for each inspection day out brief, said she was also impressed with the results of the inspection.
“The overall rating of 99.68 percent...is the highest that we have ever received,” she said.
The next NAFCD inspection will occur in the second quarter of 2018.
Beltre said he was pleased with the outcome of the inspection and attributes the DMPO team for the success.
“I’m truly blessed to be working with this great group of civilians and Soldiers who have pushed to make this the best DMPO in the Army.” Beltre said.
