Story by Lt. Col. Elena O'Bryan

    Colorado National Guard

More than 140 full- and part-time Colorado Army National Guard members will work at the 45,000-square-foot facility. Operational activities at the readiness center will include the administration, training, and logistical support of the Headquarters Company of the 117th Space Battalion, the 217th Space Company, and the 1158th Space Company, which currently lease space in Colorado Springs.
The 117th Space Battalion is the only battalion of its kind in the Army National Guard. The unit’s Army Space Support Teams, or ARSSTs, can rapidly deploy to provide warfighters space capabilities, enhancing intelligence and operational planning.
“Colorado National Guard space capabilities continue to modernize and require an expanded, cost-effective footprint,” The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Michael Loh said. “The new readiness center will better support these units while they defend the homeland and support the warfight.”
As the first military responder in the state, the CONG may also employ the facility as a staging area for personnel and equipment during emergency response operations.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall.
