CAMP SCHWAB, Okinawa, Japan – Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert B. Neller and Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps Ronald L. Green visited service members with III Marine Expeditionary Force at installations across Okinawa, April 4, 2017.

The two leaders spoke about the commandant’s vision for the Marine Corps and highlighted the importance of moral and ethical behavior within the ranks, whether it be person-to-person or online.

“The world is an unstable place,” said Neller. “We need everybody to be fully committed and ready to fight tonight. Hiding on social media and being disrespectful to other Marines is not how we’ll get there.”

The views shared during the discussion rang true for many in the crowd.

“The conduct that’s going around is not what we stand for,” said Staff Sgt. Gabriel Meily, a platoon sergeant with 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment and a native of Los Angeles, California. “This is not the conduct of a true Marine.”

One of III MEF’s goals is to be ready to deploy at a moment’s notice and poor conduct amongst the ranks detracts from that capability, said Neller.
