Colorado National Guard Soldiers, Airmen compete to be Best Warrior
CENTENNIAL, Colo. – Colorado National Guard Citizen-Soldiers and Citizen-Airmen will participate in the state’s third annual 2017 Best Warrior Competition at Fort Carson, Colo., April 7-9.
This year, for the first time, four Airmen will compete with 10 Soldiers at the CONG Centennial Training Site.
The Best Warrior Competition is an intense, three-day test of the top service members from all units of the CONG. This year’s competition will include a stressed live-fire exercise, a medical evacuation drill, a night land navigation course, and comprehensive military skill tests. The top-performing noncommissioned officer and service member from each branch of the CONG will be announced as the Colorado NCO of the Year or Airman or Soldier of the Year, respectively. The Army winners will go on to compete at the Region 7 Best Warrior Competition at Camp Robinson, Calif., May 15.
Competitors will participate in a crew-served weapon and “shoot house” event April 8, at 10 a.m. The event tests competitors’ proficiencies and marksmanship abilities using several U.S. Army small-arms weapons and is proceeded by a live-fire exercise in an urban-warfare environment.
