USACE Galveston District to host Industry Day for small business contractors

GALVESTON, Texas (April 5, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, will host an Industry Day for small business government contractors April 20, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the district’s headquarters building located at 2000 Fort Point Road, Galveston, Texas 77550.

The purpose of the event is to present upcoming work for fiscal year 2018, help small businesses navigate through the contracting process, provide an opportunity for companies to network and meet potential vendors and subcontractors as well as to maximize interest in the district’s contracting requirements.

“We consider small business to be the heart of the U.S. economy and a vital part of the Corps’ procurement process,” said Ken Adams, USACE Galveston District director for small business programs. “Industry Day will allow attendees to network and share lessons learned, success stories and contracting best practices and provide a venue to learn about potential future partnership opportunities.”

The one-day event will include morning sessions and an open forum in the afternoon for participants to meet with district staff from the Operations and Maintenance Division, Engineering and Construction Division and architecture subject matter experts.

According to Adams, the USACE Galveston District has a diverse mission that encompasses primarily civil works projects; the bulk of projects are dredging or dredging-related requirements such as levee repair, hydrographic surveying, dredged materials placement area repair, soils and water testing. The district also provides support to the Department of Homeland Security within its district boundaries in the areas of vertical construction and architecture and engineering services. Work also includes facility maintenance and repairs on the Jadwin Building that houses the district’s main offices, as well as other district offices located in Brownsville, Corpus Christi and Port Arthur, Texas.

To register for the event, please contact both Mathilda Montgomery at Mathilda.C.Montgomery@usace.army.mil and Kenneth Adams, director for small business programs, at Kenneth.w.adams@usace.army.mil, no later than 1 p.m., CST, April 15, 2017.
