PENSACOLA, Fla. – Master Chief Cryptologic Technician (Collection) (CTR) Pete Lasher, a native of Tannersville, Pennsylvania, commemorated the end of his naval career with a retirement ceremony held at the National Naval Aviation Museum, March 31.

Friends, family and fellow Sailors recognized Lasher for his accomplishments throughout a 29-year career.

Force Master Chief Tuck Williams of Navy Personnel Command served as the guest speaker for the event and remarked on Lasher’s impact on the Navy and the Sailors he has mentored.

“I have travelled the world many times over, and I have never heard one person say a negative comment about Master Chief Lasher,” said Williams. “He has been a pillar of our community, and I know his legacy will be passed to the people he has led and trained.”

During the ceremony, Lasher received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for his service as the CTR rating training manager at the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT).

Lasher was accompanied by his wife, Rosario, who joined him as he symbolically walked ashore for the last time.

“Thank you and ‘God bless you’ to all the friends, family and shipmates who supported me throughout my career,” said Lasher. “I never would have gotten this far without you. To all the men and women who serve our Navy today, and to the families that support them, thank you, and happy 124th birthday to the Navy chief petty officers tomorrow.”

Lasher enlisted in the Army in 1988 and went on to attain the rank of sergeant before doing a lateral conversion to the Navy. In 1991, Seaman Lasher reported to CTR “A” school. His first naval duty station was Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Rota, Spain.

Over the course of his career, Lasher served at ten commands, including Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania; Naval Security Group Activity Rota, Spain; USS Yorktown (CG 48); Naval Information Operations Command Hawaii; and National Security Agency/Central Security Service Hawaii.

At sea, he deployed aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67), USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), HMS Cardiff (D108), USS Arthur W. Radford (DD 968), RFA Fort George (A388) and USS Guam (LPH 9).

In 2013, Master Chief Lasher reported to his final duty station at Center for Information Dominance, later renamed CIWT, in Pensacola, Florida. This was his third tour in support of the Navy’s training mission.

“To the Chiefs Mess, I challenge you to continue providing mentorship and leadership to our enlisted force,” said Lasher. “To our junior Sailors, choose a mentor to guide you along the path to success. A lot of my mentors are here in the audience today, and I would like to personally thank them for everything they’ve done for me.”

Lasher is a graduate of Pocono Mountain High School and the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy. He is designated as an enlisted information warfare specialist, enlisted surface warfare specialist and enlisted air warfare specialist, and he is qualified as a master training specialist and combat information center watch officer.
