VILSECK, Germany – A roar of diesel engines rattled through Rose Barracks as a convoy of the Army’s tactical maneuver materiel ability marked its first movement into Poland in support of the NATO led effort Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP).

Kicking off the 900-kilometer tactical road march the Bavarian community, along with family and military leaders, participated in a departure ceremony, March 25, 2017.

The multinational formation comprised of 2nd Cavalry Regiment (2CR) Troopers, British Light Dragoons, and Romanian Blue Scorpions departing on the six-month deterrence mission are trained, Strykerized, and if need be, lethal.

“Our lethal capability is rooted in difficult, realistic training - not alone, but together,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Steven Gventer, 2nd Squadron commander, 2CR. “With our Allies from the United Kingdom, Romania and Poland, our unity is our strength.”

Together the Allied formation comprised of U.S., U.K and Romanian forces will join the Polish 15th Mechanized Brigade, 16th Infantry Division in Orzsyz, Poland to form Battle Group Poland.

The Battle Group’s tactical road march diverted onto two routes crossing through Germany and the Czech Republic positioning Troopers the furthest on NATO borders since the end of the Cold War in a clear demonstration of Allied solidarity.

The NATO led deterrence mission in Eastern Europe is a demonstration of rapid deployment capabilities and interoperability across the Alliance. The move across lines and Allies is not designed to be provocative, but to reinforce the principles of Article 5, a cornerstone of the Alliance, an attack against one is an attack against all.

“We are collectively determined to defend NATO’s population and territory against possible aggression,” said Gventer. “We are constantly working to increase our interoperability so we can work more effectively together with our Allies” adding, “We are preventing war by being well prepared for one.”
