CONG MEDIA ADVISORY: Colo. National Guard to train against active threats March 25-26

CENTENNIAL, Colo. – The Colorado National Guard, with the assistance of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, will train to counter active threats March 25-26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CONG Joint Force Headquarters in Centennial.

The training will test and evaluate Colorado State military installation emergency response procedures.

“This exercise will help strengthen the band of community protection,” The Adjutant General of Colorado Air Force Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards said. “Training with our community partner to reduce the risk to our military and civilian personnel is essential.”

Anyone working or traveling in the local area may witness higher-than-normal law enforcement presence and may hear the firing of blanks to simulate the chaotic environment of an active threat.

Most of the blank rounds will be fired indoors, but some may be heard at a distance.

If there’s reason to believe that an real-world active threat is underway, don’t hesitate to call 911.

An active threat is defined as one or more people actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area. In most cases, there is no pattern or method to a perpetrator’s selection of victims.
Active threat situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop the threat and mitigate harm to victims.

This training will add a level of personnel preparedness and is not in response to any heightened threat level or direct threat to any person or property.

In order to simulate a realistic training environment, this event is not open to the media or public.
