A free movie screening for Department of Defense cardholders is scheduled during the base theater’s grand opening at Joint Base Andrews, March 4, 2017, at 7 p.m.

The screening will be the new movie “Kong: Skull Island” and the doors open at 5:30 p.m.

“It’s a military appreciation movie put on by Army and Air Force Exchange Service,” said William Babcock, 11th Mission Support Group’s installation support deputy director. “Base members have requested this through the Quality of Life Communication tool. We revamped the building; put in new seats, sound system, projector, and upgraded the concessions.”

The theater has undergone extensive renovations and facility upgrades since April 2016. It will be officially opened after being closed for five years.

The opening will debut new theater seats, which were installed in January. The seating will accommodate roughly 1,000 audience members at a time and feature cup holders.

“Theater showings are a nice leisure activity for base members to attend,” said Thea Sarver, JBA’s Army and Air Force Exchange Service general manager. “We would love for everyone to come out to the grand opening. We will have someone in a King Kong costume for people to take photos with. It’s going to be a great family night.”

Movies are scheduled to show at 7 p.m. Fridays, and Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Additionally Sundays show at 2 p.m.
