703 BSB proves lethality with CLFX

FORT STEWART, Ga. – Soldiers of 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division conducted a convoy live-fire exercise (CLFX) to integrate combat skills while conducting traditional logistical operations Feb. 20 – March 10 at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

“We are building lethal platoons which builds readiness,” said Lt. Col. Joshua LaMotte, commander of 703rd BSB. “If called tomorrow, we will be ready to go wherever our mission is.”

During the CLFX Soldiers learned to react to contact and neutralize threats along the mission’s course.

“When deployed, 703rd will be providing assistance to the whole brigade,” said 1st Sgt. Rebecca Kirven of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 703rd BSB. “They will be the ones on the road the most.”

According to Kirven, 703rd BSB must protect itself and not rely on other units while transporting resources during logistical operations at the brigade level. In addition to reacting to multiple forms of enemy contact, they remained focused on recovering vehicles and evacuating casualties.

“As a gunner, I have to be alert for the driver, the truck commander and everyone else in that vehicle during the convoy,” said Pfc. Williams Jahmad, motor transport operator with Alpha Company, 703rd BSB. “Communication is a big part of being in the convoy, and I really improved that during this exercise.”

Communication is vital for the convoy to move safely and quickly react to threats in a combat environment.

LaMotte credits the successful CLFX to thorough planning, a deliberate gunnery, and most of all, his hard working Soldiers.

“The Soldiers themselves enjoyed the opportunity to focus on the training and see that they were lethal,” said LaMotte.
