II Marine Expeditionary Force Statement on Marines United

    NC, UNITED STATES

    03.09.2017

Story by 1st Lt. Kathleen Kochert

    II Marine Expeditionary Force

II Marine Expeditionary Force leadership is extremely concerned about the allegations of harassment and abuse which has recently come to light involving the Marines United closed Facebook group. Marines, by and large, possess and act in accordance with the values of honor courage and commitment, but we must do a better job looking out for each other. The harassing and abusive behavior by some of the members of the Marines United group is not reflective of the values at II MEF or the values of the Marine Corps at large. We take every allegation of misconduct seriously.

“This behavior is unacceptable and destroys morale, erodes trust, and degrades the individual,” said Maj. Gen. Walter L. Miller Jr., II MEF commanding general. “We’re a team, a family. You don’t treat your family with that kind of blatant disrespect.”

II MEF has a variety of resources available to individuals who believe they may be affected by this type of behavior. In addition to their chain of command, Marines and Sailors have several resources available to them to include: Victim’s Legal Counsel, Military One Source, the Inspector General hotline, chaplains, Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Criminal Investigation Division, and the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) program. Individuals can also report the incident to local authorities.

Marines and Sailors are expected to maintain their commitment to one another and treat one another with dignity and respect.

If you have information on who may be posting explicit photos of nude Marines without permission you are encouraged to provide that information to NCIS.
