The 126th Air Refueling Wing hosted a Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Event on Jan. 21-22 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program is a DoD-wide effort to provide National Guard and reserve members and their families with information throughout the deployment cycle.
National Guard and Reserve members are required to attend one pre-deployment and two post-deployment events, said Karen Stevens, the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Support Specialist with the 126 ARW. This event accommodated service members who are going to deploy or are returning from a deployment.
Hosting the program required a lot of coordination and resources to make sure everything ran as planned.
“You can’t do it by yourself,” said Stevens. “I reached out to the 183rd [Fighter Wing] and the 182nd [Airlift Wing] and have support staff coming from there. We have support staff coming from here to help out as well.”
Resources can change after each deployment so attending a Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Event helps keep members and their families in the loop.
“People have to understand that things change,” said Stevens. “Each time you deploy, your resources, benefits and allowances change. Yellow Ribbon will allow you to know what those changes are and reach out with those resources.”
