Elliott, previously a master chief sonar technician (submarine), has been in the Navy for 23 years and advanced to master chief in 2013.

“It's such an honor and a privilege for me to be selected as command master chief,” said Elliott. “I've had the privilege to learn from several amazing Sailors and mentors throughout my career, and I can only hope that at least one Sailor looks up to me the same way.”

CMDCMs ensure active communication throughout the chain of command. They advise their respective commander or commanding officer and provide input in the formulation, implementation and execution of policies concerning morale, job satisfaction, discipline, family support and training of enlisted Sailors and officers, as well as provide input and advice in matters affecting mission and operations.

Those selected for the CMDCM are responsible for leading the Chief’s Mess with the Navy ethos and core values, as well as the mission, vision and guiding principles set forth by the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy.

“I decided to apply for CMDCM after my Chief of the Boat tour aboard USS Rhode Island (SSBN 740),” said Elliott. “That job, by far, was the best experience that I’ve had in the Navy. The amount of influence that I had on the crew was unreal. I watched as those Sailors and officers grew and performed at extremely high levels on a consistent basis. I also embraced my role as the Sailor’s advocate, making or changing policies that provided more opportunities for Sailors, increased morale, yet still accomplishing the mission. I wanted to be able to do those things at a higher level to help more Sailors across a broader spectrum. Being selected as CMDCM allows me to do just that.”

COMSUBRON 21 works with Commander, Task Force (CTF) 54, the submarine force in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, and commands operations of U.S. submarine forces and coordinates theater-wide anti-submarine warfare matters. The mission of the squadron covers all aspects of submarine operations from effective submarine employment to safety and logistics.

CTF-54 is a task force under U.S. Naval Forces Central Command. U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations encompasses about 2.5 million square miles of water area and includes the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The expanse comprises 20 countries and includes three critical choke points at the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal and the Strait of Bab al Mandeb at the southern tip of Yemen.
