The United States Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team arrived here Feb. 3 and has begun training on a new drill performance they will debut during Keesler’s 81st Training Group quarterly drill down competition.
The team, consisting of 27 members, travels to Keesler annually to create and perfect a new drill performance which will be seen in the U.S. and overseas.
“This is our time to get away from everyday life and focus on training,” said Senior Airman Angelo Hightower, USAF Honor Guard Drill Team head trainer. “We have 28 days to learn a 12-minute performance and it’s going to take a bit of time so coming to Keesler helps us become more focused.”
The drill performance was put together by Hightower who, according to Master Sgt. Jason Evans, USAF Honor Guard Drill Team superintendent, was a standout in drill since the beginning.
“Hightower is the head trainer and designed the drill performance this year,” Evans said. “He was unnaturally good at drill when he started out and has used his talents to make the people around him better.”
The quarterly drill down will take place at the Levitow Training Support Facility drill pad March 10 at 8 a.m. and is open to anyone with base access.
