The 22nd Medical Group received reaccreditation after an independent organization, the Joint Commission, conducted a three-day on-site survey of the facility and its practices, Feb. 13-15 here.

“All Department of Defense healthcare organizations, outpatient clinics and inpatient clinics, receive this survey every three years,” said Lt. Col. Lee Nenortas, 22nd Medical Support Squadron commander. “[The Joint Commission] certifies that we are a safe and effective healthcare organization.”

During the survey, representatives from the Joint Commission toured the clinic to look for areas needing improvement. Everything from the way a room was set up to patient safety was taken into consideration.

Col. Jason Eitutis, 22nd MDG commander, said surveyors only a found a few low-threat recommended areas for improvement and were impressed with the overall professionalism that 22nd MDG Airmen displayed.

Although it was the lowest report the Joint Commission said they have seen this year, Eitutis stressed the importance of continued improvement.

“[Our goal] is getting to zero,” he said. “It’s about the process. [It’s about] making it safer, making it better for each other and for our patients.”
