HOUSTON — The Coast Guard and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are searching for the owner of a kayak that was found Saturday near Alligator Point, which is off West Bay close to Galveston.

A good Samaritan found the kayak and reported it to Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston at 2:38 p.m. The watchstanders launched an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and Station Galveston boat crew to investigate and begin searching.

The kayak is a beige Heritage Angler 14-foot Sit-On-Top Kayak and had fishing gear, a small cooler with warm drinks and other items, but did not have any personal effects.

If anyone has any information that could help the Coast Guard identify the owner and determine if anyone is in distress, they are urged to contact Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders at 281-464-4851.
