We are donating some school supplies for the kids such as colored pencils, coloring books and crayons, said Sgt. Destiny Blas, 797th Engineer Company (Vertical) carpentry and masonry specialist. The school also received new books for the library, puzzles and soccer balls to play with.
The soldiers donated the new school supplies in addition to constructing a three-room multipurpose building. The three nations have been working together daily for more than two weeks on the building, which will provide extra classrooms for the students, a place for town meetings or any other needs of the community.
“It’s always good to give back to the community,” Blas said. “That’s why we’re here, to get along with the community and build a bond between Thailand and the U.S.”
The supplies will help the small school of 132 students further their education, as well as expand the library with both Thai and English books.
We are all happy about the new supplies, as well as grateful for the new building because one of the buildings here is quite old and unsafe, said Mr. Teerapong Chaichanaklang, the school’s principal.
These nations coming together to give back to the community further demonstrates the concrete relationships formed over the past 36 years during Exercise Cobra Gold, and the mutual commitment of each nation to support the humanitarian interests of the community.
