Army Reserve Cyber Soldiers receive readiness message from commanding general

335th Signal Command (Theater)

Adelphi, MD – Recently, Army Reserve Maj. Gen. Peter A. Bosse, commanding general, 335th Signal Command (Theater), visited with Soldiers of the U.S. Army Reserve Cyber Operations Group (ARCOG), 335th SC (T) for a command update brief and town hall meeting during the units battle assembly weekend here, Jan 7-8.

The purpose of the visit was for Bosse to emphasize the importance of readiness, and to provide his readiness success formula of people, training and teamwork to the Soldiers in the ARCOG. The unit is a newly formed cyber command in the process of building its force through readiness and advanced cyber security training.

The weekend began Saturday morning with Col. Michael D. Smith, the ARCOG commander, his command staff and senior leaders presenting Bosse with important training information pertaining to advanced cyber security and the need to operate in full readiness status so the command can take on cyber security and cyber forensic missions.

The town hall, which followed Sunday, allowed Bosse, to spend some time with more Soldiers from the unit and pass on his words of wisdom.
“Strive for excellence and being the best,” said Bosse. “Don’t set your sights low, set them high. There is no reason why this unit can’t be the premiere organization in the U.S. Army when it comes to Cyber.”

He explained that their civilian experience in the cyber field will help them be prepared for the challenging training that lay ahead.

“Seek initiative, solve problems and take prudent risks,” said Bosse. He also specifically addressed the leaders in attendance. “Continue to mentor your Soldiers in career development and career enhancement,” he said.

“Knowing that the commanding general is trying to put steps in place so Soldiers in the ARCOG reach their full potential is a very positive step,” said Master Sgt. Adewale Akerele, a cyber protection team leader. “I especially liked his emphasis for leaders to mentor younger or new Soldiers to this career field.”

Establishing a seamless conduit to the U.S. Army Reserve Signal/Cyber capabilities with trained and ready personnel is one of the key messages in Bosse’s commander’s intent. “Readiness will focus on people, training and teamwork to deliver superior support,” said Bosse.

Bosse’s visit and message seemed to be well-received by those in attendance.

“This was a great learning opportunity for our staff to brief Maj. Gen. Bosse, on our progress in building ready - cyber operations capability through his readiness success formula of people, training, and teamwork,” Smith said.
