Whittier native receives promotion while serving in Iraq

CAMP TAJI, Iraq – Elias J. Duarte of Whittier, Calif., was promoted to specialist on August 3, 2008. Duarte is currently serving a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq with the 68th Transportation Company, 165th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade. The 68th is deployed out of Manheim, Germany.

Duarte is the son of Ruth L. Duarte of La Habra, Calif., and Jose Macias also of Whittier. Duarte is a member of the Whittier High School Graduating Class of 2002.
