KABUL, Afghanistan (Jan 25, 2016) — Afghan construction engineer equipment operators and supervisors completed their training on Caterpillar 246 D skid loader operation this week at the Ministry of Defense compound here.

The Caterpillar 246 D is one of the most versatile and sought-after pieces of equipment on any construction site, explained Tech. Sgt. Bryce P. Hamblin, operations non-commissioned officer in charge for the Combined Joint Engineer Directorate, Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan. It has multiple uses and can assist infrastructure construction for the Afghan National Army.

The trainees received classroom instruction, as well as hands-on training on how to use the different attachments, such as the sweeper, bucket, auger, forklift and trencher.

“We are very encouraged by their level of enthusiasm and dedication,” said Master Sgt. James Bryan, lead instructor for the Combined Joint Engineer Directorate, CSTC-A. “These soldiers will become the instructors of future ANA engineers. We are empowering them to become leaders and experts … as a way to the future of great development in Afghanistan.”

The training also emphasized safety and protection of personnel and equipment in order to maximize efficiency while taking care of vital assets to complete the mission.
