    Holloman Airmen support Incirlik operations

Story by Airman 1st Class Devin Rumbaugh

    39th Air Base Wing

Dome shelters are structures designed to house and provide environmental protection for different types of aircraft during maintenance operations.
The 49th MMS is the only Air Force active-duty squadron specializing in basic expeditionary airfield resources. The structures being built here will help provide a more sustainable work environment for maintenance personnel to conduct operations.
The size of the team required varies depending on the size of the shelter. This project required a team consisting of Airmen specializing in structures, power production, electrical systems and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
“The teams are hand-selected for their work ethic and then they train together,” said Master Sgt. Jason Tye, 49th MMS Support Flight superintendent.
In addition to their expertise, Tye said it’s their partnership and cooperation with local units that makes them effective.
“Our teams train in a perfect environment where they will succeed, but when we go to a real project site, we don’t know what to expect,” said Tye. “Our team can build a dome shelter in five to seven days.”
In unfamiliar situations, there can be unexpected challenges. The team was faced with finding tools and getting pieces of the puzzle to line up, Tye said.
“We find a way to work through every difficulty we encounter to finish the job,” said Senior Airman Bradley Dilworth, 49th MMS electrical power production journeyman.
Despite the group’s challenges, the Airmen from the team said they have enjoyed their experience overseas. For some, this project was their first time working in another country.
“It feels like an honor to be here because it feels like I earned this chance,” said Dilworth. “It’s very gratifying to see the mission downrange. Now we are actually seeing the bigger picture.”
