The family day, organized by the 77th Fighter Squadron, helped give back to the many Airmen who work in the 77th FS, 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the family members who support them.
“We brought family and support personnel here, to showcase what we do in a basic surface attack role,” said Bryant Tomlin, 77th FS F-16 pilot. “We will be dropping unguided bombs, and shooting the Gatling gun for the families.”
The routines help showcase the combat capabilities of the F-16 and show them what all their hard work and dedication can accomplish. Said Tomlin.
F-16s performed practices such as strafe runs, which is a form of attacking ground target from low altitudes, to shows of force which are intended to intimidate enemy ground and air units while showcasing the capabilities of the F-16.
These routines helped show families and the Airmen who work on these F-16s, what all their hard work leads to.
“Me being a crew chief, it’s great to see the other half of what air crews do out here,” said Tech. Sgt. James Fairbanks, 20th Aircraft Maintenance Unit flightline expediter. “It’s pretty impressive to see what F-16s do in an airfield as opposed to regular base operations.”
As the F-16s performed their final strafes across Poinsett, families left with a better understanding of what 77th FS and 20th AMXS Airmen accomplish on a daily basis.
