Camp Pendleton hosted a Train the Trainer course between the on-base career specialists and representatives from the State of California on 15, Dec.
The course brings the two groups together to provide on-base career specialists with the tools to better serve, coach, and assist transitioning service members.
“Currently we are working on a pilot with Marine Corps Installations – West and the state department to find qualified individuals to fill positions,” said Lanaya Trejo, Strategic Communication and Outreach Manager, California Human Resource. “We want to help match the skill set of an individual to the state service in a timely fashion.”
CalHR currently has around 3000 classifications listed and openings in about 5000 jobs that service members can apply for.
“With over 30% of transitioning service members remaining in the state of California, there are many opportunities to connect those individuals with further government employment,” said Kirsten Newsome, Personal and Professional Development Advisor for Camp Pendleton. “If they don’t understand the rules of engagement they will miss the opportunity.”
In addition to seeking guidance from on-base career specialists, service members also attend the Transition Readiness Seminar.
The seminar teaches service member about Veteran Affairs benefits, networking, job interview skills and many more.
CalHR provides service member the opportunity to apply for as many jobs as they are qualified for, in hopes of lining up a job to coincide with the completion of their service.
For more information, service member can contact their Transitioning Readiness Service office, at (760)-725-4395 or by going to the Marines and Family Readiness Center.
