When Senior Airman Sadie Lambert shipped off to basic military training in August 2013, she had no idea what the Air Force would have in store for her.

Leaving with an open general position, she said she was happy when she got put into contracting during training.

“It was the third option on my list, but I had been told previously it was a great job to have,” said Lambert. “During technical school, I was pretty confused the first week, but things started to click after a while.”

Lambert, a contracting specialist with the 354th Contracting Squadron, said her career field helps purchase equipment, such as commodities and services for the entire base.

“Contracting is behind a lot of the things you see on base,” said Lambert. “If we weren’t here to purchase those items, I don’t know how they would keep the mission going.”

Lambert arrived at Eielson in March 2015 and was finally reunited with her husband after they had been separated for a year.

“We weren’t married the entire time we weren’t stationed together,” she said. “When we did get married, we applied for a joint spouse assignment. I’m so happy to be here with my husband.”

Outside the office, Lambert said she enjoys photography and has taken an interest in photographing the aurora.

“I’m not very good yet but I’ve been researching online and trying different techniques and things,” said Lambert, chuckling. “The first few times I tried photographing the aurora, it was blurry and a mess, but I went online and learned what others were doing.”

Staying persistent, Lambert finally got some good shots of the aurora, but her advice to others is to take it one day at a time and practice.
Aside from the challenges photography gives Lambert, challenges at work can also arise, but Lambert keeps an open mind about it all.

“In technical school, you learn things in a different way,” said Lambert. “There isn’t a set way of doing something, so you have to be creative in contracting because each contract is different.”

When new Airmen arrive, Lambert tries to set a good example for them. She said if you don’t have a positive work ethic, contracting can be confusing.

“Everyone makes mistakes in this career field,” Lambert said. “If new Airmen come in willing to work, it’s noticed and appreciated. The technical side will come later on.”

Along with working to be a good example for lower-ranking Airmen, Lambert said she also gets fulfillment out of her work.

“I get excited to see the end product,” said Lambert. “When you see certain products get shipped to the base, or a new person working in a squadron, you get a sense of fulfillment with filling those positions and helping to keep the mission going.”

Lambert said he mother is her source of inspiration and has an important role in her accomplishments.

“She’s a strong, down to earth woman,” Lambert said. “People will come up to her and talk to her, or tell them their problems and confide in her. Not many people can say that, and I hope to be like her.”
