Afghan, Coalition Enlisted Leaders Hold Seminar

    BAGRAM AIR FIELD, AFGHANISTAN

    12.15.2016

Story by Sgt. 1st Class Lasonya Morales

    1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade

Command sergeants major and other senior enlisted leaders attended the three-day, Afghan-led seminar that gave a clear picture about the future of ANA NCO policies, retirements, restructuring, payments based on the ranks and positions and answering NCO questions. Also, the new command sergeant major for the ANA was announced.

U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. David M. Clark, Senior Enlisted Leader for NATO's Resolute Support (RS) mission and US Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A), spoke on the first day.

"When assessing issues and concerns of the corps we have to speak with one voice, as one team," said Clark.

"When we think about this place and this time, we need to think about our approach as senior leaders and professionals."

Clark stressed to all the command sergeants major in attendance how important educating and training their NCOs is for the future of Afghanistan.

"Be committed to your NCOs. Train them, educate them, and think about what you need to do," said Clark. "The time for action is now."

He said understanding the relationships today will unify the ANA against the enemies of Afghanistan and by working together, the enemy will be destroyed.

"Success on the battlefield is not an accident; it is the result of training by senior NCOs," said Command Sgt. Maj. Jill L. Crosby, command sergeant major for 1st Cavalry Division Resolute Support Sustainment Brigade, who attended the seminar.

Crosby said enlisted leaders are role models, and she stressed the importance of their relationship with commanding officers and their duties to mentor all soldiers.

Safi Roshan has been the ANA command sergeant major for the past 10 years and named Sgt. Maj. Habibulla Chamkani as his successor during the conference.

"I would like to say thank you," said Roshan. "I will continue to stand against the enemy with my last blood."

Roshan will now be the senior enlisted advisor to the Afghan President.

"Since I have been appointed, I will be working hard for you all and for this country," said Command Sgt. Maj. Habibulla Chamkani. "We have to work together. We have to keep the passion."
