Team Fairchild volunteers packed more than 400 care packages for deployed military members as part of a KREM 2 News Station initiative, Treats 2 Troops, Dec. 1, 2016.
KREM 2 partnered with Team Fairchild for the sixth year to fill the care packages with small treats and items such as beef jerky, sanitizer wipes, lens cleaning cloths, shampoo and hand-held games.
“These care packages provide a sense of home to the military members overseas,” said Stacy Fritz, Officer Spouses’ Club member. “We package them here and give a little bit of home for our Airmen during the holidays.”
According to the OSC, Treats 2 Troops also gives the Spokane community an opportunity to support military members currently serving overseas.
“There are a lot of people in the local area who want to help our military, but don’t have an avenue to do so,” said Andrea Diemer, OSC president. “This program gives them that outlet and it’s amazing to have so many people wanting to be involved to make this happen.”
Prior to Airmen and volunteers packing these boxes, KREM 2 News asked for donations from their Inland Northwest viewers. Because of their efforts, thousands of items were donated from around the region, most notably, the Spokane community.
“The Spokane community has absolutely blown me away with their support,” said Col. Ryan Samuelson, 92nd Air Refueling Wing commander. “I remember getting a package [while deployed last year], and it makes a difference. When you open a card and it’s from somebody that you don’t even know thanking you for what you’re doing down range, it puts that extra touch and it helps out our members.”
