FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – When Gayle Kaler, the mayor of Paducah, was born, a Veterans Day parade promenaded down the street outside of the hospital.
This year, she recognized veterans of the Paducah community with a Veterans Day parade Nov. 11, which also included Soldiers of 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Sustainment Brigade “Lifeliners,” 101st Abn. Div.
“We've had a relationship with Fort Campbell for any many years,” Kaler said. “I'm really happy that [the 101st Airborne Division is] having a bigger presence here in Paducah.”
Lifeliner Soldiers provided a static display of vehicles to show the capabilities of a sustainment brigade and marched in the parade as a color guard.
Spc. Jakub Faircloth, a paralegal specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 101st Special Troops Battalion, 101st Abn. Div. Sust. Bde., marched in the parade as part of the color guard.
“Not only is it the first time (the brigade has partnered with Paducah), but it’s a big deal for them, so it was nice to come show support for the city,” Faircloth said.
The Fort Campbell-based Soldiers spoke with residents of Paducah, to include local veterans and the city’s distinguished veteran of the year.
Kaler said she plans to continue to hold Veterans Day parades in Paducah.
“I think it’s an important thing to continue to honor our veterans [and] to be able to teach our children the importance of pride in our nation and support for our veterans,” Kaler said.
