CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Camp Pendleton and the Armed Services Young Men’s Christian Association recently received a $15,000 grant to put towards vital programs in support of Marines, Sailors and their families.

Camp Pendleton plans to use the funds to support the Fisher Children’s Center (FCC).

“This center is important for many reasons not the least of which is that this type of accredited Child care is highlighted as one of the greatest needs of our Military Families,” said Christopher Keane, Executive Director, Armed Services YMCA Camp Pendleton. “We provide a service that can give a military spouse or a single parent either the break they need or the ability to have their child in qualified hands while they take care of much needed items such as a car repair or grocery shopping.”

When the ASYMCA took over daily operations in October 2015, there were 69 children participating and as of October 2016, we have 399 families signed up, 521 children participating.

The FCC offers affordable drop-in child care for close to 300 children each month on an hourly or part-day basis.

“Our Nation is filled with individuals who are thankful for what they have and are willing to do almost anything in response to a need,” said Keane. “Our service members do our Nations bidding every day without question, so it is my hope that I can connect a grateful society with the families on Camp Pendleton. My firm belief is that there are not enough community members that are aware of our programs and services. “

This grant will allow the ASYMCA to continue to help make military life easier.
