An officer with the Tennessee Air National Guard’s 134th Air Refueling Wing in Knoxville, Tenn., was one of three servicemembers nationwide to be awarded a full-tuition master’s degree scholarship in September from the National Guard Association of the United States and the University of Phoenix as part of the Association’s scholarship program.

Capt. Chad Morgan, a resident of Maryville, Tenn., is the commander of the 134th Maintenance Squadron at the Knoxville Wing.

“I am very grateful and excited to be able to get my Master’s from the University of Phoenix on a full scholarship,” said Morgan. “I am pursuing and MBA with a concentration in project management.”

Morgan said he had been considering getting his MBA for a few years, but the cost had kept him from actually pursuing it.

“The scholarship has been a huge blessing to allow me to fulfill a goal of mine,” he said.

This is the fourth year the University of Phoenix has offered the scholarship to eligible NGAUS members. To be eligible, applicants must be actively affiliated with NGAUS. To date, they have awarded 14 full-tuition master’s scholarships to NGAUS members.

Morgan said he had applied for it in previously and was not awarded it at that time, so he decided to give it another shot this year. He had to write three short essays to be considered for the scholarship and this time he was selected.

“National Guard officers embody the type of student we look for at University of Phoenix,” said Adam Such, University of Phoenix vice president of military and veterans affairs, and retired lieutenant colonel. “They are dedicated, hard working and disciplined and it is truly our honor to welcome them to the Phoenix family.”

The scholarships are awarded to Army and Air National Guard officers ranked lieutenant colonel and below.
