Sailors and civilians assigned to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) attended a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration held Oct. 6.

The event, hosted and organized by FCC/C10F multicultural committee, was kicked off by Rear Adm. Gene Price, deputy commander FCC/C10F.

This year’s theme of “Embracing, Enriching and Enabling America” was on display as a panel of speakers highlighted the contributions of prominent Hispanic Americans throughout history. Included in the discussion was Nobel Prize Winner Luis Alvarez and labor leader and civil rights activist Dolores Huerta.

“It is important for us to celebrate diversity because we all come from different places, have different backgrounds, and as we learn to better understand each other we become better sailors that improve the efficiency of our Nation's Navy,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Ashlee Moreno, a member of FCC/C10F multicultural committee and native of San Diego, Calif.

“The Hispanic Heritage observance in particular, honors those that have made tremendous contributions to the establishment and defense of the United States of America, while also being proud of our cultural heritage,” said Moreno.

Today, there is nearly 60,000 Hispanic Americans serving in the U.S. Navy and are represented in every rank and in every platform including aviation, surface and submarine forces.

Hispanic heritage month is observed from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.

U.S. Fleet Cyber Command serves as the Navy component command to U.S. Strategic Command and U.S. Cyber Command, and the Navy's Service Cryptologic Component commander under the National Security Agency/Central Security Service. Fleet Cyber Command also reports directly to the Chief of Naval Operations as an echelon II command.

U.S. 10th Fleet is the operational arm of Fleet Cyber Command and executes its mission through a task force structure.
