BAGRAM AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN (Oct. 9, 2016) – The Soldiers of the Czech Republic Army conducted a transfer of authority ceremony at Bagram Airfield during a ceremony here today.

Capt. Marek Stepanek, 6th Force Protection Company (FP Coy) commander, and his Soldiers from the Czech Armed Forces 43rd Airborne Battalion relinquished their mission to Capt. Petr Vitek, 7th FP Coy commander, and his Soldiers from the 73rd Tank Battalion.

Czech Republic Army Col. Miroslav Svoboda, Czech Task Force commander, and U.S. Army Lt. Col. Jason W. Davis, Task Force Tiger commander, presided over the TOA ceremony. The Honorable Mr. Miroslav Toman, Czech Republic ambassador to Afghanistan also attended the event.

“I’m glad and proud to see that the 6th Task Force has successfully completed its mission here at Bagram and will return safely home,” said Toman.

“On behalf of the President of the Government of the Czech Republic and myself, I would like to express our admiration and appreciation for the job you have performed here,” he added.

The 6th FP Coy successfully conducted more than 400 patrols ‘outside the wire,’ partnering with the local populace and the Afghanistan National Army in support of security operations, humanitarian aid, and construction projects, according to Davis.

“The Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan is a most important mission for the Czech Republic Armed Forces,” said Svoboda. “Without the support of our partners we would not be able to provide such high quality operational achievements.”

“Today is the last day for the 6th Coy and the first day for the 7th Coy,” Svoboda added. “Congratulations to the commander of the 6th Coy, and to the commander of the 7th Coy I wish much success here in Afghanistan.”

“Task Force Tiger has been blessed to have the 6th FP Coy assigned to our mission,” said Davis. “In the last six months, Capt. Stepanek and his company have made an incredible impact on the security of the Bagram ground defense area.”

“He provided a first class performance that truly exemplified the task force creed of a disciplined, professional team, ready to lead and win,” Davis added.

To finalize the transfer, Capt. Stepanek and Capt. Vitek signed documents signifying the beginning of the 7th FP Coy mission here. A 6th FP Coy Honor Guard presented the Czech Republic national flag for Stepanek to symbolically transfer the mission to 7th Coy.

“To the 6th Force Protection Company, now we are standing on the other side of our six month deployment,” said Stepanek. “I am proud of what our unit has accomplished during this operation. Without the Soldiers of this company, we could not have achieved what we did.”

“To the 7th Force Protection Company, I wish you much success in your mission here,” Stepanek added.

Capt. Vitek thanked the 6th FP Coy for their support during the transition and affirmed his company’s commitment to mission success.

“The 6th Force Protection Company, under the command of Captain Stepanek, has done a huge amount of good work here,” said Vitek. “I wish them safe travels home and a well-deserved good rest.”

“To the command of the Czech Task Force and the Task Force Tiger commander, I firmly believe that the 7th company will meet the high quality of work that was completed by the 6th company,” Vitek added.

The 7th FP Coy becomes a coalition partner in TF Tiger responsible for the ground security of Bagram Airfield. They join the U.S. Army 1st Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division; the 52nd Georgian Light Infantry Battalion; and the U.S. Army 42nd [Engineer] Clearance Company in protecting all the personnel and assets at Bagram.
