William Beaumont Army Medical Center is slated to hold a hospital-wide Organizational Day at Biggs Park, Fort Bliss, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Oct. 15.

The Organizational Day will be open to all WBAMC Soldiers, civilians and families and will feature a variety of family-friendly activities, entertainment and lunch.

“It’s an opportunity to get out of the workplace and get to know each other socially,” said Capt. Austin Otocki, commander, Company C, WBAMC. “You can expect to have events from pumpkin patches to bounce houses and live music to a barbecue lunch.”

Other activities planned will include a parade of costumes for children and adults, obstacle courses, a dunk tank and static displays.

“(Organizational Day) is an opportunity to meet other individuals in the organization and for leaders to meet with employees,” said 1st Sgt. Celecia, Kalili, company first sergeant, Company C.

While the event is open to all of WBAMC, the planning and preparation are being accomplished by WBAMC’s Company C, which provides administrative support and training to healthcare professionals in WBAMC’s educational programs. Because of the unique mission of Company C, students will also participate in Organizational Day with informative stands that will allow patrons to learn more about the courses of study at WBAMC.

“Students are limited to who they are allowed to socialize with and work with outside of the hospital,” said Otocki. “This is also an opportunity for them to be a part of the team. They’ll be allowed to socialize and be engaged and teach the patrons a little more about what they do here.”

The event will also present opportunities to build camaraderie through various competitions such as tug-of-war and kick ball tournaments. For patrons interested in participating in sporting events, equipment will be available for check out.

“To see the person behind the uniform or the person behind the scrubs, that opportunity we don’t get too often and it pays dividends in the long run,” said Otocki. “To those that are working on that day, we’ll bring pumpkins and food so they can have a piece of the fun while they are working.”

Patrons may choose to bring their own sporting equipment and swimsuits if they wish to participate in the dunk tank, although the splash park located within Biggs Park will remain closed for the season. Various food vendors will also be located onsite for added dietary selections.

For employees or families still interested in volunteering before or during the event, contact 915-742-7201.
