MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. — On Sept. 30, the Combat Center will be participating in National Preparedness Day as part of America’s Prepare-A-Thon 2016, a presidential initiative geared toward arming Combat Center residents with the knowledge needed to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters and man-made incidents.
On Preparedness Day, the Combat Center will test the Enterprise Mass Notification System (eMNS), an interactive, community notification system capable of providing voice and/or data messages to multiple, designated receivers through: desktop notification, telephone and social media to include a few.
“It is important that our residents are prepared for any situation that may arise,” said Luis Aguirre, installation emergency management specialist, G-7 Mission Assurance. “This day will provide everyone aboard the installation with the opportunity to practice responding to a crisis.”
One’s ability to benefit from the full spectrum of eMNS capabilities requires self-registration of personal contact information. Entering this personal information enhances Marine Corps Installations’ ability to rapidly provide emergency information and changes to the base's operating status during non-working hours and when you are away from your desk.
“Staying prepared is important because you ensure that you or your family doesn’t become a victim,” Aguirre said. “If you’re prepared for whatever may happen, our first responders can assist with other types of emergencies; it’s a matter of helping us help you.”
For additional information and to register on the National Prepare-A-Thon, visit www.ready.marines.mil or contact G-7 Mission Assurance at 830-6074.
