    Fleet Week Sets Sail for the first time in Maryland; Ships Announced

    Washington (NNS) – Five U.S. Navy ships will participate in the inaugural Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore, Oct. 10-17.

    U.S. Navy participating ships will include: The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19), Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109), Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport ship USNS Carson City (EPF 7), and the U.S. Navy’s newest and most technologically advanced surface ship USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), which will be officially commissioned Oct. 15.

    In addition to public visitation of participating ships, there will be numerous exhibits and military demonstrations throughout the week showcasing the latest technology of the maritime services and the skilled expertise of our service members.

    Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore is the city's time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of Maryland and the city of Baltimore to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today's maritime services. This is the inaugural weeklong celebration. It is anticipated that nearly 3,100 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate.
