“The Airman’s Attic does not have a lot of volunteers,” said Senior Airman Kayvon Burley, 741st Missile Security Forces Squadron response force leader. “In our off time (from honor guard duties), we were able to volunteer and make the process of organizing a lot quicker.”

The Airman’s Attic has uniforms, civilian clothes, furniture, books, enlisted stripes, baby items and much more.

“I’ve been at (Malmstrom) for three and a half years, and am now just finding out about the Airman’s Attic,” said Burley.

Thursdays noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to noon, dependents, retirees, technical sergeants and below to pick up items. The last Thursday and Saturday of each month is “all ranks day,” which means anyone can come and pick up items.

“Airmen and families are able to take as many items as needed, but no more than 25 furniture items,” said Brown.

Donations are accepted anytime during business hours, however, there is a shed located outside of the Airmen’s Attic for people to place donations outside of normal business hours, with a list of items not accepted.

“Items that can’t be kept are donated to the Great Falls Rescue Mission and St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store,” said Airman 1st Class Hailey Brown, 341st Force Support Squadron food service apprentice.

The Airman’s Attic is closed to the public on Tuesdays, but any military or civilian card holder can volunteer to help sort through items, from 10 a.m. to noon.

“I think everyone should volunteer,” said Burley. “Volunteering gives a sense of pride knowing the efforts will make a difference in someone’s life. Without volunteers the Airman’s Attic can’t stay open.”

The Airman’s Attic will be celebrating eight years of operation this October with a grand re-opening. The event will take place at the Airman’s Attic, Building 4000, Oct. 6 at noon and will include free food.
